Our matching algorithm identifies psychologists who speak your language, have cross-border experience relevant to your background, and whose therapeutic approach fits your needs. Matching typically takes under 30 seconds.

Yes — this is the core of what Expathy does. All our therapists are matched specifically by the language you need. Whether you want sessions in Turkish, Spanish, Arabic, French, or any of our 35 supported languages, we will match you with a psychologist who is fluent in that language.

Are online therapy sessions as effective as in-person?

Research consistently shows that online therapy produces outcomes equivalent to in-person therapy for the majority of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, and adjustment difficulties. For expats, online therapy offers the added advantage of continuity — your therapist stays with you regardless of where you move.

How long does each session last?

Standard sessions are 50 minutes. Your therapist may recommend different session lengths for specific needs, such as intensive sessions or shorter check-in calls. Session duration and frequency will be agreed upon with your therapist at the start of your work together.

What happens if I need to cancel a session?

You can cancel or reschedule a session without charge up to 24 hours before the scheduled time. Cancellations within 24 hours will result in the session credit being forfeited. We understand that expat life is unpredictable, so we encourage you to contact your therapist as early as possible.

Can I switch therapists if the match is not right?

Absolutely. A good therapeutic relationship is essential for effective therapy. If after one or two sessions you feel the match is not right, you can request a new match. There is no penalty for switching. We want you to find the right fit.

What if I move to a different country mid-therapy?

This is one of the most common expat scenarios, and it is exactly why Expathy operates entirely online. Your therapist travels with you virtually. As long as online therapy is legally permitted in your new country, your sessions can continue without interruption.

Is my information confidential?

Yes. All sessions are confidential and protected by professional ethics and applicable law. Your therapist will explain the specific limits of confidentiality (such as risk of harm) during your first session. Expathy's platform is built with security and privacy as foundational requirements.

What qualifications do Expathy therapists have?

All Expathy therapists are licensed psychologists or accredited psychotherapists in their country of training. They are individually reviewed by our clinical team and must demonstrate both professional qualifications and meaningful cross-cultural experience. We do not work with coaches or unqualified practitioners.

What payment methods do you accept?

Expathy accepts all major credit and debit cards via Stripe, our secure payment processor. Sessions can be purchased individually or as part of a package. Prices are displayed in EUR. Your card will be charged in EUR; your bank may apply its own currency conversion if your account is in another currency.
